Rexburg voters narrowly defeated the proposed $16,750,000 police station bond by 4 percent during Tuesday’s election. A supermajority or 66.67 percent in favor was required to approve the bond.
According to Madison County election officials, 2,879 people or 18 percent of the 15,850 eligible to vote did so. Of those voting, 1,442 or 62.60 percent cast ballots in favor of the bond while 862 or 37.40 percent voted against it. A vote in favor of the bond would have increased property taxes by an estimated $61.51 a year on a home valued at $100,000.
