Don’t be surprised if you see “ghosts” of Canadian soldiers silently walking through the city’s downtown core Saturday morning as part of early Remembrance Day services.
About 20 such soldiers, who lost their lives over 100 years ago, will be played by others from the military, cadets or police or fire services, carrying their photos, identifications and stories on small cards that can be handed out.
The soldier “ghosts” are inspired by a similar tribute done in Britain in commemoration of 100 Years of the Somme, the big British battle of the First World War.
“They did the same project in 2016 on July 1, so that was the 100th anniversary of the Somme,” said Tim Gillies, general project manager of the Toronto version.
