The Louisville City Council will consider advancing 2026 grant funds for nonprofits that provide food assistance as the federal government shutdown continues, threatening the food and financial security of thousands in the area who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
The city’s nonprofit grant program is administered two years in advance by the finance department, with the recipients for 2025 and 2026 already determined in 2024. The city’s biennial operating budget for 2025 and 2026 includes $48,000 each year for grants and contributions to nonprofit agencies, according to city spokesperson Grace Johnson.
Of the 12 organizations scheduled to receive 2026 funding, six address food insecurity in some form, totaling just over $32,000, Johnson said. Boulder County Cultivat
