BELVIDERE, Ill. — Mark Jones is attempting a remarkable feat to support veterans. He aims to set a Guinness World Record by covering the farthest distance in 24 hours while carrying a 40-pound pack. This effort is part of a campaign to raise funds and awareness for the Oscar Mike Foundation, which plans to build an adaptive sports complex for disabled veterans in Boone County.
Brendan King, Jones' crew chief, said Jones wants to do something greater than himself after many personal achievements.
The Oscar Mike Foundation, led by founder Noah Currier, is about halfway to its fundraising goal. Currier expressed amazement at Jones' dedication, saying, "I can't fathom it. It sounds absolutely insane to me."
Jones takes occasional breaks to rest and refuel but remains focused on his goal. He
