WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita's Eisenhower National Airport will not see flight reductions as the Federal Aviation Administration cuts capacity in 40 busy areas starting Friday.

The FAA's decision comes amid the ongoing government shutdown, which has left air traffic controllers working unpaid since Oct. 1.

The reductions are expected to begin at 4% and increase to 10%, affecting as many as 1,800 flights and 268,000 seats.

"Air travel is part of a small ecosystem, and so one little thing that occurs somewhere else will have a ripple effect throughout the entire system," said Jesse Romo, director of airports at the Wichita Airport Authority.
