CAMPBELL, Ohio - For the first time in the history of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), a federal government shutdown has disrupted benefits, leaving millions of Americans unsure how they will feed their families.
With funding stalled and new benefits not fully released to EBT cards, people across the country are turning to each other for help.
A growing trend on social media shows residents opening small, makeshift food pantries on their porches or in their yards, stocking them with donated items for anyone to take.
One of those pantries is in Campbell.
In a quiet neighborhood, a porch inside Mylissa Santiago’s home is now lined with canned vegetables, pasta, beans, boxed meals and other staples.
