WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — While thousands of Kansans wait for full Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, groups around the state are stepping up to make sure no one goes hungry.

The United Way of the Plains is hosting a flash food drive on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Wichita at 245 N. Water St.

Public outreach and community engagement manager Stacy Ward Lattin said it's important that Kansans come together and keep each other fed.

"This week we've been getting overwhelmed with calls wanting to know, 'How can we help?'" she said. "Which isn't surprising. Our community always comes together to help our neighbors in need."

The United Way said you don't have to get out of your car; staff will come and unload the nonperishable items.
