CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) -- A portion of Mahoning County's sales tax isn't set to expire for another year and a half, but officials are already working to get it renewed.
The first of two public hearings on Mahoning County's road and bridge sales tax renewal was held Thursday night.
The quarter-penny sales tax brings in about $10 million a year, funding paving and bridge projects across the county.
County Engineer Pat Ginnetti says without it, those road projects would come to a halt. The money has already helped repave about 150 miles of roadway in the last three years.
Even though the tax doesn't expire until 2027, officials want it renewed early to avoid any gap in funding.
