Teamsters Local 89 , the union that represents UPS and other workers in Louisville, hosted a vigil after a tragic plane crash killed at least 13 people, including a young child.
The Nov. 6 vigil began with a moment of silence at 5:14 p.m., the time that officials believe the plane crashed just 48 hours before. Louisville residents showed up in large numbers, some holding signs with "2976," the number of the flight, while others read "Louisville is UPS strong."
Among local union leaders were elected officials including Mayor Craig Greenberg, U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey, Kentucky state Rep. Lisa Willner and Secretary of the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet Jamie Link. Each speaker shared the love they have for Louisville and the ability to show up for community, even in tragedy.
