ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's commitment to transitioning the state's vehicle fleet to zero emissions by 2035 is under scrutiny after more than 300 gas-powered Honda Accords were delivered to state offices, despite her executive order mandating zero-emission vehicles for new acquisitions when available.

"For the governor to mandate that that industry be stricken out of the transportation of the state fleet and then, behind the scenes, lease a whole bunch of vehicles is a smack in the face to New Mexicans and to the state's energy workers," said Larry Behrens from Power the Future, a nonprofit advocating for energy workers.
