LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — Southwest Airlines cancelled 21 flights in or out of Harry Reid International Airport for Friday as the airline implements a 4% reduction in flying across 34 airports, as the FAA limits flights across the U.S. due to air traffic controller staffing shortages from the federal government shutdown.

According to FlightAware, 121 Southwest flights are cancelled airline-wide for Friday. Harry Reid International Airport has 32 total flight cancellations for Friday, with the remaining cancellations spread across United, SkyWest, American, JetBlue and Delta with four or fewer flights each.

Southwest said it is taking steps to minimize disruption for customers. The airline proactively cancelled about 120 flights for Friday, representing a small portion of its daily schedule,
