Democratic Mayor Michael O'Connor and Democratic City Council candidates built wide leads on Thursday after the first day of counting mail-in and drop-off ballots in Frederick's general election.

O'Connor now has 5,127 votes to his Republican opponent Tom Trott's 2,002.
