U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene had cordial words to say about former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Appearing on CNN on Nov. 6, Greene, 51, addressed the announcement that Pelosi, 85, would not seek reelection after nearly four decades in Congress. The Republican from Georgia criticized the liberal stalwart's involvement in U.S. politics, noting she is a proponent of term limits.
But Greene later praised the Democratic congresswoman from San Francisco, saying Pelosi had "an incredible career for her party."
"I served under her speakership in my first term of Congress, and I’m very impressed at her ability to get things done. I wish we could get things done for our (Republican) party like Nancy Pelosi was able to deliver for her party," Greene continued. "So I wish her well in her retirement, but I would like to see people exit Washington a lot sooner rather than wait until their eighties."
During her appearance on "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," Greene denounced the country's partisanship, saying she's "tired of the toxic nature of politics here in Washington, but also across the country. Families have been torn apart. People have gotten divorced, it separates parents from children. So I'm trying to lead by example."
Greene's take on Pelosi's latest move stands in stark contrast with what President Donald Trump said about the congresswoman.
"I think she's an evil woman. I'm glad she's retiring. I think she did the country a great service by retiring," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office about Pelosi's announcement.
Greene, who raised eyebrows in recent years by backing unfounded conspiracy theories, has strayed from the GOP on issues such as healthcare, the record-setting government shutdown, and the Jeffrey Epstein files.
When she shared her stance during her Nov. 4 appearance on "The View," Sunny Hostin commented, "It's like you've gone so right, it’s like you’re on the left now." But Greene maintained that she stands with Trump.
"When I ran for Congress in 2020, I ran criticizing Republicans and Democrats equally," she said. "People have been crushed by decades of failure in Washington, D.C. I have no problem pointing fingers at everyone."
