The door looked ajar early in the high school football season. Perhaps Scranton Prep’s four-year reign as District 2 Class 3A champion was collapsing.

Nine weeks later and there is just one team — unbeaten Berwick — left in the way of a fifth title.

The title runs through a familiar place in Crispin Field as the Dawgs (11-0) host Prep (6-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.

A Prep victory would tie Berwick for the most consecutive D2-3A championships. The Dawgs won five in a row from 1994-1998.

Here are 10 things to ponder about the game.

1. Prep defeated Berwick 37-7 in 2015 for the Class 3A championship, coaching legend George Curry’s final game running Berwick. Curry was dealing with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and died April 1 of the following year.
