SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — Smithfield Town Council President John Tassoni is expressing concern over the district's response to an alleged antisemitic hazing incident involving the high school's football team.

The Smithfield School Committee decided earlier this week to launch their own investigation that will focus on the administrative response to the incident and the steps that were taken to address it.

However, that investigation will be conducted by the committee's attorney.

Tassoni believes the committee should have authorized an outside independent investigation into the incident and the district's response to it.

"It doesn't look good," Tassoni said of the committee's attorney conducting the investigaiton. "He's too close."
