FITCHBURG, Wis. -- One person died Thursday night following an apartment fire in Fitchburg.

Dane County dispatchers confirmed to Channel3000.com that crews from Fitchburg Fire Rescue and the Fitchburg Police Department were sent to the Valley View Apartments, 2937 Fish Hatchery Road, just before 7 p.m. for a fire alarm.

A Channel3000.com crew encountered multiple fire trucks at the scene, including a truck with a ladder deployed.

In an update, Fitchburg Fire Rescue said fire was found in one unit and was put out. One adult was removed from the affected unit and taken to a hospital, where they died from their injuries.

No other injuries were reported. The origin and cause of the fire remains under investigation.
