TEMPE, Ariz. — A Tempe family is facing mounting challenges after missing food assistance benefits this month, compounded by damage from a microburst that tore through their neighborhood nearly a month ago.

Belen Valencia and her family of five, including her two-year-old granddaughter, were forced out of their trailer home after the storm ripped the roof apart, causing severe flooding and destroying walls, flooring and furniture.

“I was devastated, I was heartbroken,” Valencia said. “I was just like, I can't believe what was happening.”
