SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Scottsdale family is finding a silver lining in a time of grief and tragedy. The death of 12-year-old Dylan Skalina led to a decision that will save hundreds of lives.
He was pronounced brain dead after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm on Halloween night. His family chose to donate his organs — a decision doctors say will help about 300 strangers.
“Dylan wasn’t feeling great, but I think he thought it was his blood sugar,” said Megan Skalina, Dylan’s mother.
Dylan, a type 1 diabetic, did not want to miss out on trick-or-treating with friends. The night took an unexpected turn when he began vomiting uncontrollably and developed a severe headache at a friend’s house, prompting a 911 call.
