For the second consecutive year, one small community will spend the majority of the summer without its town pool.

The Walcha pool is currently undergoing extensive, much-needed renovations; however, the project has been delayed and is not expected to open until late January 2026.

"It's disappointing the pool will open later than we thought, but we will have to make the most of the circumstances," said Rachael Wellings, whose children are Issy (6) and Toby (11).

"Last year, the pool closed in February, which meant the swimming club and the swimming carnivals had to be squeezed into a very short season.

"One of the frustrating things about it also is that the kids who were trying to move up through their levels didn't have anywhere to train.
