Veteran playback singer and actress Sulakshana Pandit died on Thursday evening after prolonged illness. She was 71. Her family confirmed the news of her death.
Sulakshana hailed from one of Bollywood’s most respected musical families. She was the sister of famous composer duo Jatin-Lalit and yesteryear actress Vijayta Pandit.

Her songs defined an era. The haunting melody of “Bekrar Dil Tu Gaye Ja”, the playful “Somwar Ko Hum Mile Mangalwar Ko Nain” with Kishore Kumar, the soulful “Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein” with Mohammed Rafi are still remembered fondly by fans.
Along with Rafi, she has produced a host of evergreen numbers such as “Sona Re Tujhe Kaise Miloon,” “Yeh Pyara Lage Tera Chehra,” “Jab Aati Hogi Yaad Meri,” and “Yeh Pyar Kiya Hai.”
