LINCOLN HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man who tried to evade police after a chase ended up running onto a construction site and falling down a hole in Lincoln Heights Thursday night.

Firefighters responded just after 9:30 p.m. to the area of Sichel Street and Alhambra Avenue after the man became trapped in the hole measuring about 30 feet deep and four feet wide, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The suspect allegedly led police on a chase in a stolen van before abandoning the vehicle to avoid getting arrested, according to authorities.

He ended up running through an industrial area and into a construction site, where he apparently jumped a wall and fell down the hole.

Crews were able to rescue the 27-year-old man and he was taken to a trauma center in critical conditio
