After an upset win on the road in the final week of the regular season, the Fruita Monument High School football team earned a spot in the Class 5A state playoffs. The Wildcats, who closed out the regular season at an even 5-5, are the No. 18 seed in this year’s bracket. They travel to the Front Range today for a first round matchup against 15th-seeded Columbine.

Tonight’s first-round playoff game will kick off at 7 p.m. at JeffCo Stadium in Lakewood, with the winner advancing to face second-seed Ralston Valley in the quarterfinals.

Stakes could not be more different for the two programs. The Rebels, only two years removed from their most recent state championship, hope to get back to their winning ways and the Wildcats enter the game in search of only their second win in the 5A playoffs
