WILLIAMSPORT — It would appear Williamsport’s elected officials will have term limits after all.
City Council on Thursday night chose not to attempt to override Mayor Derek Slaughter’s veto of a term-limits ordinance adopted Oct. 16.
Instead, it passed on first reading a similar ordinance, but with the provision to allow those currently in office to run once again, although they would exceed the term limit if elected.
Slaughter, who is one of three elected officials impacted by the change, said he would sign the ordinance if it is adopted on final reading with no amendments.
In adopting the original ordinance council ignored the suggestion of City Solicitor Austin White to include the provision allowing those in office to run for one more term.
Unchanged is the limit of two four-yea
