Joint Base Andrews was evacuated and several people reportedly fell ill after a “suspicious package" said to contain a white powder was opened at the military base in Maryland.

A spokesperson for the base, home to Air Force One, said a “building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area.”

“Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and have turned the scene over to Office of Special Investigations,” they told several media outlets, including USA Today. “An investigation is currently ongoing.”

CNN, citing two sources familiar with the investigation, reported that several people were taken to the on-base Malcolm Grove Medical Center after the package was opened. Joint Base Andrews
