DAVIS, W.Va. — A coal miner died in Tucker County Thursday.
The accident occurred at the Mountain View Mine near Davis.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey identified the victim in a Facebook post as Joey Mitchell Jr.
“All West Virginians should keep Joey’s family, friends, and fellow miners in our thoughts and prayers,” Morrisey said. “Our coal miners are among the hardest-working and most courageous people in our state. They represent the strength, humility, and resolve that define West Virginia. We owe these men and women an enduring debt of gratitude for the sacrifices they make every day to power our communities and our nation.”
The accident occurred early Thursday morning. There are reports that a second miner was injured and flown from the scene. No other details have been released.
