MUMBAI: Mumbai’s Central Railway (CR) network descended into chaos as overcrowded platforms and stalled trains collided with a flash protest by railway employees at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Thursday. Commuters, desperate to reach home during peak office hours, found themselves stranded in jam-packed stations, with some forced to walk along active tracks, leading to a tragic accident that killed two and injured three others. The protest, organised by the Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh (CRMS), was in response to an FIR filed against two CR engineers in connection with the June 9 Mumbra accident, in which five had died. Employees gathered outside the motormen’s lobby at CSMT, blocking train crew access and bringing suburban operations to a halt for nearly an hour.
