In a major crackdown on illegal wildlife trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF), Guwahati, along with forest officials, intercepted two suspected smugglers in Jakhalabandha, Nagaon distrcit early Friday morning.
The operation, based on intelligence inputs, led to the seizure of endangered species that fetch huge sums in the international black market.
The accused, identified as Bidya Singnar and Samson Kathar from Karbi Anglong District, were intercepted near a playground in Kuthori while riding a Honda Glamour bike carrying bags containing six Tokay geckos, a live slow loris, and pangolin scales weighing over 10 kilograms.
