There’s always plenty to quibble about in Leafland, but there’s no denying this. The good news is pretty good: Toronto’s NHL team is suddenly red hot, winning five of six games. And the Maple Leafs exited Wednesday’s 5-3 home win over the Utah Mammoth leading the NHL with 52 goals.
In Toronto’s first season without Mitch Marner, the play-making winger who led them in points over the nine previous seasons combined, the retooled Leafs have found a way to create plenty of offence. And here’s the kicker: They’ve done it while their power play, historically a strength , has been dismally unproductive.
