Chamoli : The Badrinath Nagar Panchayat of Chamoli district has set an example for other hill towns by turning waste into wealth. The Panchayat has earned Rs 1,07, 64000 during the current Yatra period through eco-tourism fees and waste management. Out of this, Rs 7.54 lakh was earned by selling garbage collected from the city area.
Garbage collected in Badrinath Dham is now being recycled instead of dumped. It is sent to recycling factories in Bijnor and Saharanpur districts of Uttar Pradesh. This initiative has not only improved cleanliness but also helped the Panchayat move towards financial independence.
