AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat high court on Thursday granted six month bail to Asumal Harpalani, alias Asaram, on health grounds. He is currently serving a life sentence in a 2013 rape case . A division bench of Justice Ilesh Vora and Justice R T Vachhani granted temporary bail to Asaram to facilitate his medical treatment. The order came a week after the Rajasthan high court passed a similar directive, which was cited by Asaram's counsel while seeking interim bail before the Gujarat HC. The 82-year-old is serving a life term in Jodhpur prison in a Pocso case. The judges said they were granting bail on the same grounds as the Rajasthan HC, which had earlier allowed his release for medical reasons.
