YOUNGSTOWN Distribution of funds from a $600 million class-action settlement for victims of the East Palestine train derailment may now move forward after a federal appeals court threw out challenges filed by a group of objectors.
The Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals on Wednesday dismissed two separate appeals brought by those objecting to the settlement fund intended for residents and businesses affected by the February 2023 derailment.
Circuit judges stated that one appeal was dismissed because the court lacked jurisdiction, and the other was dismissed for failing to follow a court order regarding an appeal bond.
The first appeal involved the objectors’ request for an extension to appeal an earlier order that required them to post an $850,000 appeal bond. The appeals court found
