Nicola Sturgeon has warned the "internet rumour with lurid subplots" she was subjected to during her time in office risks leaving "politics to bad people".
The former SNP leader today opened up on why she decided to tackle one internet myth in particular head on when she published her political memoir, Frankly, in August.
Sturgeon was the subject of multiple posts on social media falsely alleging she had a lesbian affair with a senior French diplomat during her time as First Minister.
Appearing as a guest on the Guardian's Politics Weekly podcast, the veteran MSP warned the nature of personal attacks on social media risked putting off "good, talented people" from considering careers in politics.
