A woman who insisted she was Madeleine McCann has been found guilty of harassing the missing girl's family by turning up at their home, sending sinister letters and asking for a DNA test - but not guilty of stalking them.
Julia Wandelt tearfully told jurors "I do believe I'm her" during her trial at Leicester Crown Court. The court heard it is "blindingly obvious" that 24-year-old Wandelt, from Lubin in south-west Poland, was not the missing girl.
Wandelt perpetuated the myth that she is Madeleine, who vanished aged three in Portugal in 2007, and harassed Kate and Gerry McCann by sending emails, leaving voicemails, and turning up at their home.
