WHITEHALL, Mich. — One person was killed overnight in an officer-involved shooting in Whitehall.
Muskegon County Sheriff Michael Poulin said officers had been called to the Comfort Inn in Whitehall for a wellness check early Friday morning. The person then rushed officers with a box cutter, he said.
The person died. Poulin said it is unclear if it was an officer that killed them or if it was self-inflicted.
No officers were injured, he said. The responding officers will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation is underway.
Poulin said police are at the hotel as a precaution.
