ATLANTA — Airlines have begun canceling flights at Hartsfield-Jackson after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced plans to reduce air traffic amid the ongoing government shutdown.
Hartsfield-Jackson is among th e 40 airports ordered by the FAA to reduce flights, along with airports in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and others. As of Friday morning, there were about 50 cancellations and delays at the Atlanta airport, according to FlightAware.
By Friday evening, those cancellations reached 84, with nearly 200 delays, but the scene was typical as the weekend got underway. Many of the canceled flights were to smaller destinations, and some passengers were forced to take multiple flights to get home.
