Hundreds of domestic and international flights were delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday after the air traffic control system suffered a technical problem.

The exact number of affected flights was unclear. Reuters reported that about 200 flights were delayed, while Deccan Herald said that the number was more than 300 .

The airport issued a statement saying that the automatic message switching system, which supports the air traffic control’s flight planning process, had developed a fault.

The Airports Authority of India said that air traffic controllers were processing flight plans manually , leading to delays. “Technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest,” the authority said on social media.
