Australian legends Ian Healy and Mark Taylor have declared West Australian all-rounder Cameron Green should not feature in the first Test of the Ashes if he is not fit to bowl.
Green underwent major back surgery in October last year and had been slated to return to the bowling crease in the early stages of this season, but his build-up has been interrupted by a side strain which emerged after he sent down only four overs in WA’s first game of the Sheffield Shield season.
After dropping out of Australia’s one-day squad to play another red-ball game as a specialist batter, he is expected to bowl between 15 and 20 overs against Queensland next week in the final shield game before The West Test.
