LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - A Lansing mom and military spouse has earned national recognition for her efforts to teach children about money management.
Dr. Darla Bishop, an author and educator, won the National Warrior Rising Pitch Competition in Washington, D.C., taking home a $20,000 prize for her innovative work in financial literacy education.
Dr. Bishop is the creator of Piggy Bank Pathways, a financial literacy program designed to help children develop healthy money habits from an early age.
She and her 7-year-old daughter, Madeline, also co-wrote a children’s book titled Madeline’s Money Adventure , for children ages 3 to 8.
While that may seem young to begin learning about money, Dr. Bishop says financial awareness starts early.
