The Murasings are a small tribal community of the state as part of the altogether 19 tribal communities of the state with its distinctive culture , linguistic variation and identity. Late ‘Kokborok’ and Bengali poet Chandrakant Murasing was the first in entire northeast to win the prestigious ‘Bhasa Samman’ award conferred by the ‘Sahitya Academy’ for poets and writers of unscheduled languages.

Spread over in small habitations in Sonamura and Santir Bazar subdivisions the Murasingh community still celebrates their annual socio-cultural festivals.
