CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson spoke to United Nations leaders in Geneva, Switzerland.

He joined a discussion Friday morning with members of the U.N.'s Human Rights Council.

Johnson's speaking about the federal immigration crackdown and also the impact of the government shutdown.

Speaking on the ending of SNAP benefits, Mayor Johnson said, "As someone with first-hand experience, I can tell you how humiliating it is when you open the refrigerator and you have nothing to eat. In the wealthiest country in the world, there is no reason why our federal government should allow hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans to go hungry."
