COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio House Agriculture Committee unanimously approved an amendment to House Bill 364, a food allergen labeling bill, that would add sodium warnings to menu items at chain restaurants.

According to the American Heart Association, this amendment would flag any item with more than 1,150 milligrams of sodium in it, which is half of the recommended daily limit.

The American Heart Association states that research shows that nine out of 10 Americans consume too much sodium, with more than 70% of it coming from restaurant meals and processed foods.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says consuming too much sodium is a leading cause of heart disease.
