As we approach Shabbat Vayera, let us touch upon three topics, one arriving now, and two arriving very soon: this week’s parsha; Kristallnacht 87 years ago and Veterans Day.
(1) In the middle of Genesis 18, the Lord tells Abraham, Sodom and Gomorrah are going to be destroyed on account of the grievous sins of their inhabitants. Abraham boldly questioned and negotiated with God: “Will you sweep away the innocent along with the guilty? Far be it from You. Shall not the Judge of all the earth deal justly?”
