LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds attended a candlelight vigil to honor the lives lost from Tuesday's UPS plane crash and fire that killed at least 13 people .

The plane had been cleared for takeoff and was en route to Honolulu when a large fire developed in the left wing and an engine fell off, said Todd Inman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, which is leading the investigation.

“I missed the crash by about 20 minutes,” said Adam Jackson, who’s an unloader for UPS.

Jackson said he’s grateful for his life.

“I had just left the parking lot," he said. "In fact, my wife heard about it before I did, and she didn't want to distract me too much and call me with the news. She waited 'til I got home, and we talked about it."

The news that unfolded has left a mark on his heart.
