As the federal government shutdown continues into record territory, the FAA has ordered a 10% reduction in flights to 40 major airports nationwide, leading to delays at major airports across the U.S. that could impact Thanksgiving travel plans for Michiganders.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy this week said the 10% reduction in flights will take place by the end of the week due to the ongoing federal government shutdown .
Federal air traffic controllers and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers are considered "essential," meaning those federal employees are expected to keep working despite not receiving a paycheck. They're supposed to get back pay once the shutdown is lifted.
The ongoing shutdown is the longest in United States history .
