HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu police have opened an attempted sex assault investigation after a woman was attacked.

On Thursday, at about 7:45 p.m., a 22-year-old woman was taking out the trash in front of her home on Waialae Ave., when she was attacked by an unknown man.

HPD said the man assaulted her and attempted to remove her clothing.

The victim fought back and was able to escape.

Police said the suspect fled in an unknown direction. The victim sustained injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
