One day after the Alberta Teachers’ Association said it was filing an injunction against the use of the province’s notwithstanding clause to force them back to work, Alberta’s premier and education minister are set to make an announcement addressing class size and complexity.

Premier Danielle Smith, Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides, and Red Deer Public Schools chair Nicole Buchanan are set to speak from Calgary at 11 a.m.

The details of the announcement are unclear at this time.

Class size caps and tools to address classroom complexity were among the issues that sent Alberta’s more than 51,000 educators to the picket lines on Oct. 6.

Teachers returned to classrooms last week after the province fast-tracked the Back to School Act to end the strike.
