Milutin Osmajic, a forward for Preston North End, has been handed a nine-match suspension following an incident during a match against Burnley last season. The decision comes after an independent Regulatory Commission found him guilty of an 'aggravated breach' of FA rules, specifically relating to the use of abusive language that referenced colour or race. The incident occurred during an EFL Championship fixture on 15 February 2025. An official FA spokesperson stated, "An independent Regulatory Commission has sanctioned Preston North End FC’s Milutin Osmajić for a proven breach of FA Rule E3." The statement detailed that Osmajic was accused of acting improperly and using insulting words towards a Burnley player. The commission determined that the language used constituted an “Aggravated Breach” under FA Rule E3.2, which includes any reference to colour or race. Despite Osmajic's denial of the charges, the commission imposed a nine-match suspension, a £21,000 fine, and mandated an education course. The written reasons for the decision will be published later. In response to the ruling, Preston North End expressed their disappointment. The club stated, "We note that the outcome was determined on the 'Balance of Probabilities' rather than one that is 'Beyond Reasonable Doubt'." They also highlighted that the FA's decision did not reflect a moral judgement on Osmajic's character. The club reiterated their support for Osmajic, who has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. They affirmed their commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, stating, "We are proud of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policies and practices, and we reaffirm our opposition to all forms of discrimination." Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri had previously addressed the alleged abuse, stating on Instagram, "I will not be silent about what happened today. I will always call out racism whenever I hear or see it." He emphasised the importance of confronting such issues in sport and society. This season, Osmajic has made 11 appearances for Preston in the Championship, scoring four goals. As of now, the team sits fourth in the league table, just two points shy of the automatic promotion spots.
