LAS ANIMAS COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - The Las Animas County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted on Tuesday to give food vouchers to local Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients.

According to the Las Animas County Department of Human Services (LACDHS), the board approved $100,000 for the county Community Food Fund.

The county said this money will go toward food vouchers for residents impacted by the federal government shutdown and the suspension of SNAP benefits.

The vouchers will only be redeemable in grocery stores and are available only for food products, county officials said.

The financial contribution is co-sponsored by LACDHS and the South Central Council of City Governments (SCCOG).
