Springfield Township — Springfield Township officials and a mining company are tapping the brakes on plans for a gravel pit that has drawn pushback from residents — a move they believe will provide time to assess the potential impact of the project.

The Levy Co. in February submitted its application for the pit, proposed on a 482.6-acre plot of land at the southwest corner of Ormond Road and French Lane. The pit is estimated to yield 60,000-665,000 cubic yards of sand annually, according to the company's application.
