PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Pinellas County saw a surge of residents move away from flood-prone areas last year, according to a report by Redfin.
The coastal Florida county ranked seventh of the top 10 flood-prone areas in America with the largest number of residents moving away, the report showed.
The real estate company said flood-prone areas in America are losing more residents than they are gaining for the first time since 2019.
Redfin agents in flood-prone areas said high housing costs, climate risk, rising insurance premiums, and politics are among the factors that have made people reluctant to stay or move in.
Pinellas County experienced its first net outflow in many years, Redfin said. The company reported that nearly 4,000 residents left Pinellas County last year.
